Areas of Practice
Appeals
Because the legal system is imperfect, we ensure that the law is fairly applied to your case. To right a wrong on appeal means persuading a group of judges that the law is on your side. Through meticulous review of the record and the law, compelling legal writing, and creativity, we excel at doing just that. Our clients include victims of police misconduct, wrongfully terminated employees, and people going through difficult divorces. As an appellate lawyer, Mr. Caballero practices in both state and federal courts, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court, and the Intermediate Court of Appeals.
Civil Rights and Liberties
A government of the people, by the people, and for the people is one that respects the fundamental liberties and humanity of every person and does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, color, religion, ancestry, or disability. When the government has violated these fundamental promises, we will stand up for your civil rights and liberties and hold the government—whether local, state, or federal—accountable.
Employment Law
Workers have the right to a safe work environment free from harassment and discrimination. We help both employees and employers to negotiate employment and severance agreements, ensure compliance with Title VII, the American with Disabilities Act, and other employment laws, and to represent licensed professionals when they face disciplinary action, among other legal services.
Small Businesses, Startups, and Nonprofits
We believe in helping licensed professionals, small businesses, startups, and nonprofits make the world better through cost-effective and client-centered legal services, advice, and solutions. We can be your part-time general counsel, advising you and your board on establishing the appropriate legal structure (LLC, non-profit, or for-profit corporation), drafting and revising governance documents, reviewing contracts and grants, employment, and litigation.
